I am often asked why, if I do not believe in God, do I care so much about religion. The answer is simply that religion gives people a reason to act like total assholes in the name of God, and the faithful act accordingly at every single opportunity presented. Honestly, when you really break it down, my problem isn’t with the concept of God in and of itself; fables about an old wizard snapping his fingers and creating the universe are fairly innocuous. No, my problem is with the imbeciles that comprise God’s demented fan club, and those that have spun those the very same fables into instructions on how to live like a narcissistic prick. Virtually any obscene, violent, disgusting, or selfish behavior can and will be justified by the religious who will claim that a particular course of action is simply God’s will. The insidious Duggar family is a shining example of this appalling conduct.
Yesterday it was announced that Michelle Duggar is pregnant with her 20th child. Of course, the pregnancy is welcome news to both Michelle and her dipshit husband, Jim Bob, despite the cautioning from doctors that another pregnancy poses real danger to the child. The warning comes on the heels of Michelle’s previous pregnancy which resulted in the baby being born 3 months premature and weighing a scant 1LB 6OZ. After such a scare, most rational people would heed such serious warnings from medical professionals and refrain from having more children. Not the Duggars; they’re special. They have decided to let God determine the number of children they are going to have. So, the couple long ago ceased using any form of birth control or measures that would inhibit another pregnancy. Therefore, in the Duggars eyes, when Michelle gets pregnant against medical advice and better judgment, it’s not their doing; it’s simply God’s will.
Remember the scene in Fight Club where Tyler Durden lets go of the steering wheel and allows the car to crash? God didn’t make him take his hands off the wheel; Tyler made a conscious decision to let the car careen out of control. The Duggars have taken their hands off of the steering wheel, but will blame impending the crash on God as to assuage themselves of any guilt. At least Tyler Durden took responsibility for his actions. Even schizophrenic delusions have more common sense than the religious.
